Andy Clarke calls it a day

Andy Clarke, author of Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design announced today that he will no longer be operating his popular blog And all that Malarkey in its current form. Andy cites a disillusionment with the blogosphere’s negativity and lack of respect for others as the reason for his decision. In his own words:

This is no longer a world that I want to be part of.

He promises that he will continue to publish his writing in “various other places”, which is heartening to hear. I will personally be saddened to bid And all that Malarkey farewell, and wish Andy all the best in his future endeavors.

The timing couldn’t be more ironic for me – I purchased my copy of Transcending CSS yesterday.

Personally, I think Andy Clarke aka Malarkey’s decision to ditch his blog had more to do with the drubbing he got on Molly Holzschlag’s blog last week (now removed) for his treatment of her, than anything else. He knew he was going to get grief for that if he ever allowed comments on his own blog again and so decided to get out of the blogging game. Just my two cents!

@Jeff: I hadn’t read the post on molly.com that you refer to, but found a copy here: http://www.ivirtuaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9115. What an odd situation, like an A-list blogger celebrity drama!

Oh my goodness and why did they have to drag it up for the public to know this????

Andy and Molly keep your dirty laundry to yourself as we (well I do) have a life and this is RUBBISH!!

seriously, keep your internal affairs INTERNAL. Nobody else cares.

@Jonathan: Amazing, isn’t it?The two of them carrying out a ‘war of the blogs’!! In the past, I suspected that this Andy Clarke character was using Molly’s ‘fame’ in the web community to give himself a leg up (there was a period where he turned up at every event she was doing and it wasn’t difficult to read between the lines!) and it seems that he finally decided that she had outlived her usefulness to him. Sad, but these things happen, I suppose.

I think they are just as bad as each other….
Did Molly think it was ok to have sex with someone elses husband, why did she not wait for a divorce or get to know the guy before jumping into bed with the first guy who said something nice to her??

And Andy Clarke, what a jerk. Its idiots like this that give guys bad names. I am sure he is off speaking sweat nothings (and that is what they are sweat NOTHINGS) at the moment and getting something and probably ruining someone elses life.

Get a life, grow up and take some resonbility and leave us the web world out of it. I can see it now, “Andys and Molly’s sex tape”….

Maybe you’ve all been had. That both Andy and Molly staged the whole thing to shoot to further notoriety. Best way to deal with this is refuse to read any blog associated with either name.

@Mike – that is sad if that is indeed the case

I am closing comments on this post. I think it is inappropriate to use this page as a venue to slander Molly or Andy. NOTE: The comments already on this page are not the really bad ones, there was worse.
