In today's competitive web hosting environment, there really is no difference between shared and dedicated web hosting, it's a sham in my opinion.

You said they stick all customers on one server, but in fact i've experienced this exact same phenomenon with a "dedicated server". All these web hosting companies are making the same guarantees but to save themselves bandwidth, and money on buying individual servers they must stick all customers on one server regardless of whether it is shared, or dedicated.

Thanks,
Tal Lifschitz,

@Georges - I have no doubt I would have a lot of fun playing with my own server! But for now I'm content to do the reseller thing.

@Grapplica and Eddie - Thanks for the words of support. Eddie, I love the photos you have up on Flickr.

Thanks for the work you put into your site, I have the RSS feed near the top of one of my Netvibes pages.

Nice read :)

I started building up our own webhosting company some years ago. Well, not a big business, as the company I worked for just wanted to get their Websites online and don't bother about shared hosting or dedicated servers. So we started getting some of our own servers into a big datacenter :)

It was a great experience as I was not the best "root" that day. But like a lot of things, experience makes you better!!! And working with Linux was the best choice ever. No downtimes and a very stable system and happy customers.

If you ever think about your own server, or getting a dedicated, just play around with it for a while. After some time you know the trick :)
